Wedding DJ Checklist: Everything You Need to Know

Your DJ carries more of the wedding than most couples expect: the processional cue, the microphone your vows go through, the speeches, the first dance and the last hour on the floor. Confirm these things before the day.

Before you book

• Is ceremony sound included, or only the reception?
• How many wireless microphones are provided, and are there spares?
• Does the DJ bring their own system, or rely on the venue?
• Is there a backup mixer, laptop and speaker in case of failure?
• What time do they arrive to set up, and when do they strike?

Music planning

• Processional, recessional and first dance songs, named exactly.
• A do-not-play list — it is as useful as the request list.
• The mix of Kenyan, gospel, afrobeats and international your guests actually want.

When the DJ and MC are booked together they plan the transitions as one, and the programme stops stalling between segments. It is the single easiest improvement to a wedding run sheet.
